Thanks to the committee and you, Tammy, for all of your hard work.  So happy that I made the decision to attend. This reunion gave me an appreciation of the true-good friendships I had in high school. Northeast Iowa looked beautiful--so green and rolling.  We were a lucky group to have grown up in such a wonderful time and place. I look forward to our next reunion and hope that more will be able to attend.

Pat (Emerson Berg)

Thanks for the GREAT job you all did!  The reunion was so much fun and well organized.  I would like to get a copy of the 3 class documents, the History, Prophecy and Will.  It's odd I had not hear about them before; they were priceless.

Sheryol Werner Buchanan

"I have to tell you that the reunion was so nice and well organized.  Name tags were so clever - nice for the spouses so they knew people.  Hats off to the committee for a job well done.  I can only imagine how many hours you worked on this. It certainly showed.  The food was good and we thoroughly enjoyed the program.  Lots of good laughs.
I had such a great time and got to talk to a lot of classmates."

Don Sullivan

"My hat is off to you and the committee for all the time and energy you spent in making this get together memorable and a fun time.  It always amazes me that after 50 years everyone there is the same as I remember them.  We have a great class.  The only thing I regret is not having more time to spend with everyone and hearing the stories of their lives and families."

Marsha Damge Mason

Dear Tammy , Lucille, Lynn, Sandy & Luetta and your spouses,  Thank you for all the work you girls put in to making our 50th class reunion very special.  It was a wonderful reunion and we really enjoyed it.  Seeing everyone, especially those who where there for the first time, was great.  We hope those who couldn’t make it this time will certainly make the next reunion.  There is never enough time to visit with everyone but it was quality time.  Looking forward to the next one

Susan Cahill Jarvis

"I enjoy thinking about the great time we had last Sat.  I would love to have you forward the 3 documents that  Don and I read.   I must have had them, but who knows where they are now.  That was such a great  evening and I wish I could have been there for Fri. night, too."

Diane Follmer

To Reunion Committee --Just a note to let you know my photo arrived
and I appreciate receiving it with the excellent
identification.  I am sorry I could not attend on
Saturday evening but I was glad to be there on
Friday and visit with so many classmates.  Thanks
again to the committee for all their work.
My sister sent me a copy of the article from the ODR.
Someone on the committee was conscientious to get
that much information in the article.  Thanks again.
Diane

Ed & Dorothy Vilwock

Ed and I want to say a big THANK YOU for the great party you put together.  The entire weekend was just great.  We know you put a lot of effort and hard work into making the weekend work so smoothly (even the rain held off while we were outside!)  I can't say enough to your classmates for making me (Dorothy) feel so welcomed among you all.  I feel as if I've known you all for so long......thank you.

Tammy, we received the picture A-OK and the listing of names really helps to jog the "old brain" a bit.  Considering the subject matter that the photographer had to work with, everyone looks good.  Hard to believe you're all in your mid/late 60's.  Must be that Iowa upbringing and fresh air!

Ed and I know a lot of pictures were taken that weekend......most that we were unaware of that were being taken at the time.  We've attached a photo of the two of us that was taken the week before....showing us together, with smiles on our faces......

Thank you again for the great weekend!

Thank You Curt and Nancy

Thank-you to Nancy McBride-Struyk and her husband Curt for providing all the classmates attending the 50th reunion with a CD by Sam Stryke, their son, who is a pop jazz artist/composer.  We had a choice of either the CD "Brunch" or his Christmas CD, "Joy to the World".  The "Brunch" CD had one cut "Blueberry Girl" an instrumental he wrote for his mom. Thanks again, the listening has been great!

News Paper Writeup

The Oelwein Community High School class of 1961 held its 50th class reunion July 22-24 at Edgewater Golf Course clubhouse. Forty-five classmates attended from one to three events through out the week-end.

Friday evening a casual supper was held in the lower level of the clubhouse with 58 classmates and guests attending.

Saturday events included touring the Oelwein Library, Hub City Brewery, High School/Williams Center and “Husky Walk of Pride”.

Saturday evening 74 classmates and guests attended the banquet’s re-creation of the 1961 senior prom, “Bali Hai”. The school colors of purple and gold were mixed with the tropical colors of pink, blue, red, yellow, orange and green for decorating in a tropical theme. Each guest was presented a lei, “Huskies” booklet and name tags with their graduation picture and including one for each guest. Programs for the evening were similar to the original, made of burlap and cardstock with a 50 on the cover in pearl cotton with the “0” being closed with purple and gold jewels. The “Huskies” booklet contained remembrances of classmates that are deceased, a class directory and “Senior Snaps” a short bio of each student from their senior year as they appeared each Saturday throughout the 1960-1961 school year in the Oelwein Daily Register.

High school memories and nicknames were also shared during the program. At the close of the program a drawing was held for a fishing rod and reel made and donated by Sam Fox. The rod is graphite, painted purple; the eyes are purple with gold shock rings. It is 7 foot long and the eyes are wrapped with purple and gold thread. There is a 7 inch thread wrapped butt decoration consisting of 48 individual purple and gold thread wrapped in a chevron pattern. The reel is gold colored and the butt is purple swirl acrylic with a ring of walnut and ivory colored plastic. The butt cap is ebony wood with a figure of a husky dog encapsulated in the end. It is labeled “OHS 50th” reunion 1961-2011 in front of the reel seat. It is entirely hand crafted and one of a kind. Winning the rod was Marsha Damge-Mason, Traer, IA.
